It's that time of the year! Apple has unveiled the latest iPhone 16 collection, and even though the iPhone has had a loyal fanbase for nearly two decades, why is the new release getting so much backlash? Has the reign of the iPhone come to an end?
There was a time when the iPhone was seen as one of the most innovative products in the market, after its unveiling by former CEO Steve Jobs in 2007, the iPhone has since become the number one phone manufacturer trumping their competitors from Nokia to Samsung. At the time, the iPhone was just the trendier option but as the 2010s progressed it started to become the must-have phone, so much so that if you didn’t have one you were seen as an outsider.
With Apple's latest release of the iPhone 16, people have swarmed to social media and given their honest reviews on the newest gadget. There's been a lot of mixed opinions on the camera quality, the new buttons and even the new loss of the sticker... But the real burning question is "Is it worth the hype?". Here's what to expect from the new iPhone 16!
New Colours!
Probably the most fun part of choosing your next phone! Apple's printer has definitely had some fun this year—introducing Ultramarine (an electric blue), Teal (green, our fave), Pink (a hotter pink compared to the 15), White and Black.
Apple Intelligence
With the rise of AI, Apple has integrated their own Artificial Intelligence to create an easy user experience. With Apple Intelligence, you have access to new Writing Tools, the ability to create fun custom images, and ChatGPT fully integrated into Siri. Overall these are some pretty cool and common uses of AI that you'll have available to use freely without having to pay through a third-party app or site.
Now there's no denying the scary and powerful side of AI. Apple Intelligence can also record calls and capture and summarise the transcript of a call. It's uncertain if this can be done without someone's knowledge, but if someone you know has got one of the iPhone 16s, you better be careful with what you say over the phone!
As cool as the Apple Intelligence may seem! This won't be available straight away... Apple has said this feature will be released at some point in December. So if you're dying to get your hands on Apple's AI, you're gonna have to sit tight for a while!
Camera Control - the new extra side button
With every iPhone, there are always new additions to the camera. The iPhone 16s comes with an extra side button to help capture, zoom and change settings for additional product user-friendly abilities. For amateur photographers, you'll be pleased to know the camera allows you to take super‑high‑resolution images, or zoom in with the 2x optical‑quality Telephoto. With an additional Ultra-wide camera, according to Apple "it’s like having four lenses in your pocket".
Action button
Say goodbye to the switch and say hey to a new action button! The updated feature gives you a fast track to any kind of control you need instead of the standard silent switch. With the option to create a shortcut, you can make it accessible to the torch, a voice memo, to shazam a song, Silent mode and more!
Comparison to the 14, 15 and 16
After comparing the past three models, there is hardly any difference between the three. If you're not fussed about Apple Intelligence or a more enhanced camera and video features, then you can save yourself hundreds of pounds and go for one of the now older models such as the 14s and 15s. To see it for yourself you can compare any specific Apple models on the Apple website.
However, if you've got an older model older than the 13s, it could be a good option to upgrade yourself to the latest model. If you're looking for the best new tools, great battery life and an overall quicker user experience then splurging on the new iPhone 16 may not be such a bad idea!
