When you think about insurance, you don’t automatically think about celebrities. Insurance isn’t just for your phone, there are actually some insurance companies that specialise in celebrities and insuring their most prized possessions. Everyone has their most prized possessions that they don’t want to damage and celebrities are no different. It makes sense that some celebrities would insure their more precious / rare items and for some that does include their body parts. 

What are the weirdest things that celebrities have insured? A lot of celebrities have insured their body parts based on what they are famous for, i.e. Gordan ramsey’s tongue is well known to be insured because he is known for his food and his taste so for him if something were to happen to his tongue, he could well lose his potential income and more.

We all know the foul mouthed chef for his temper but also for his Michelin Star food. In order to generate such great food you need to try it, therefore you would naturally take out a $10 million insurance for your tongue and taste buds against loss of function, disease or aging.

 

Keith Richards

Co-founder and guitarist from the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards is one of the most successful songwriters in history. It seems ridiculous the thought of insuring one middle finger; but he did it for $1.6 million.

 

Troy Polamalu

Former Pittsburgh Steelers NFL player and winner of two super bowls, Troy is not someone you’d want to mess with. Known for his Defensive play he has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame but what he has insured isn’t what you would be expecting. After signing a deal with Head and Shoulders the company insured Polamalu’s iconic hair for $1 million, making him a Guinness World Record holder for highest insured hair.

 

Gene Simmons

Bassist and front man of Kiss is known for his stage persona ‘The Demon’ and his wild facial expressions. At the height of Kiss’ fame in the 1970’s Gene Simmons insured his world famous tongue for $1 million.

 

Bruce Springsteen

We all know the song ‘Born in the USA’, from Springsteen’s best selling album. With seven number ones from this album alone Springsteen seems to have the magic touch for a singer songwriter. Knowing this information it comes to no surprise that he insured his vocal chords at his height of fame in the 1980s for $6 million.

Heidi Klum

The first German model to become a Victoria Secret Angel, Heidi Klum is known for her modelling career and television hosting. Braun have taken insurance out on Heidi’s legs when she signed to work on a campaign with them. What will shock you about this insurance is that one leg is worth more than the other by $200,000, resulting in a total insurance for $2 million.

 

Mariah Carey

All I want for Christmas singer has had multiple insurances for body parts. In 2006 after winning Gillette’s ‘Legs of a Goddess’ campaign her legs were insured for $1 billion. This only the first time she took out personal insurance on her body, in 2016 when touring she took out insurance again on her legs but also her voice for $35 million each.

 

Dolly Parton

The country music star and philanthropist, Dolly is well known and recognised around the world. Her small waist and large breasts is the main association with her public image, something that she is happy to joke about. Having spent a considerable amount on cosmetic surgery to maintain her public image it’s no surprise she has insurance for her breasts for £3.8 million.

 

David Beckham

There aren’t many footballers everyone in the world knows, yet David Beckham is one of them. As a professional sports person it’s no surprise that he has his legs insured. In the early 2000s they were insured for a mere $70 million, this however over doubled in 2006 becoming the biggest sports insurance ever at the time for $195 million.

 

Fernando Alonso

The Spanish F1 driver with 32 wins under his belt and two world championships had insurance taken out on his thumbs by Santander for $8.7 million. Known for his thumbs up celebration as well as vital in F1 driving Santander felt his thumbs need to be protected.

 

Usain Bolt

You need legs to run, especially to run 100m in 9.58 seconds. At the 2012 Olympics the greatest sprinter of all time insured his legs for $200 million.

 

America Ferrera

The Ugly Betty star is known for wearing braces throughout the TV show. Therefore it would surprise you to know her perfect braces free smile was insured for $10 million in 2006 when Ugly Betty first aired.

 

Other notable body parts insured are :

  • Jennifer Lopez’ Bottom for $27 million 
  • Cristiano Ronaldo’s legs for $144 million by Real Madrid in 2009
